This is one working i've been wanting to photograph for a while now. Initial thoughts were to capture it at Beaulieu Road but with it having a mid afternoon slot the shadows would of devoured the shot. Brockenhurst was the chosen location and Freightliners 100th Class 66 number 619 can be seen passing the signal box situated next to the crossing barriers protecting the A337. The working is the 6O49 TThO 10:51 Neasden - Wool empty 4-wheel PGA hoppers.

I'll be honest !, no disappointment was about me when gen came through that the 'Ham Stone' was 'Shedded'. Three reasons really, 1. The weather was glorious, 2. Traction that i had not captured on this working before, 3. I knew she would need to work her 'Nuts' off to climb the steep incline towards Beaulieu Road !. A great combination really so i got there in plenty of time. My decision was to pic her from one of my favourite spots as to 'hopefully' get a good 'exhaust heat haze' effect from above. In my opinion she did'nt disappoint. 66208 powers towards Beaulieu Road with the 7O48 loaded stone train from Whatley Quarry to Hamworthy in 'Dream' light.

A real grab shot you could say with me arriving no more than 30 seconds beforehand. Freightliners 57007 saunters through Great Wishford operating the 4O54 Leeds - Southampton service.

THe signal check at Crofton is usually for the Turbo that starts/terminates at Bedwyn. The signal at Crofton protects the crossover into the turnback siding. If 7A09 is early by more than a few minutes over Savernake, it is usual to get stopped checked/stopped at Crofton waiting for the unit to depart (the next signal after Crofton is off the end of Bedwyn platform!) Hope this helps. Andy

MEGA !. In glorious early morning unbroken sunshine Class 37 'Tractors' 422 'Cardiff Canton' & 417 'Richard Trevithick' plough through the fields of Lee near Romsey. The 1Z37 (08:10) Eastleigh - Llandrindod Pathfinder 'The Heart of Wales Explorer' railtour brought not only the blue skies but also brought 'us' down south two of the now extremely limited and very finest Heritage diesels around. SPLENDID !.

How frustrating ! !. Just one daily freightliner working uses this wonderful stretch of track between Redbridge and Romsey and that passes at the crack of dawn. A quick trip before work to Coldharbour Lane, Lee allows the shot. On a glorious September morning 66543 can be seen powering the 4M50 (07:25) Southampton - Crewe container service.

Freightliners Finest !. With just a single operational Green/Yellow Class 57 example remaining 57006 'Freightliner Reliance' is quite a catch. Under welcome blue skies 'The Celebrity' can be seen hauling the local trip working 4B32 Marchwood - Maritime. A bonus came with this working today with the fact that the normally empty flats from Marchwood which were there purely for weekend storage were actually 50% loaded which obviously helped with this image. Splendid !. 29/10/2007

Twit ! You could've just asked me - tried that tree shot before but the fence is just a little too high. Course, I didn't fall outta it! A valiant effort though my friend, at the expense of your finger.... :) (Before anyone else tries it we're talking about a tree on the shoreline of the estuary which is climbable and looks like there is a shot across the fence, but the fence is just too tall, so don't bother else you might end up like this twit!)

16th May 2009. A call the previous night asking if i wanted to assist with the preparation of Class 50 No:135 before her big day 'loadhaul livery' launch at the following weekends 'Eastleigh 100' Open Day was an invite not needing to be repeated. Spending the day pampering 'Ark Royal' made me appreciate the controversial livery and made me open my eyes to such a wonderful piece of craftsmanship. With a steady hand here and buckets of Turtle Wax there we all have now seen just how 'Glorious' she turned out. Massive thanks 'must and will' go to the one and only 'GG' for the call and also 'Midi' for his generosity and hospitality during a truly memorable day. 'Superb' !

I'm with you on that Steve, i too far from mind the stark contrast in light to be seen in this image. Certain locations need to be completely lit whereas others certainly don't. Smash'in constructive comment Steve, thank you.

Grr jammy git! Three fots in sun of this beast compared to my one in dull at Shrivenham! Your captions explain where this train disappeared for almost two hours or so after Didcot. Oh well thats how the game goes sometimes. Great shots as always Pete!
